one election in southeastern new mexico that ended in an absolute tie may be decided by a game of poker. the chaves county clerk says the county commission race between eloy ortega and james duffy ended with both men getting 1004 votes. when that happens– the tie must be broken by a game of chance between the candidates. “they’ll have to either flip a coin, draw straws or cut the cards. but i suggested they maybe play a game of 5 card stud and whoever had the best hand would win.” the clerk is still waiting on 16 military ballots– but if they weren’t post marked by november second — they can’t be counted and the election will remain a tie. if the poker game is needed — it will be held on tuesday
