    one advantage to giving a free card, is if you have a full house or a big hand by flop or turn then giving a free card to something like a straight or flush draw on the board, so your opponent hits and then goes on to bet because hes hit a big hand and youve showed weakness.
    obviously you have to know you have the best hand and that you will almost certainly have the best hand by the river.

    extortion…car jacking and all types of fuckarie!

    my theory here is…you must bet it to either buy a card by puting the thought in your opponent, that you may have a set. (he really cant come over the top with AA) also to see a river card to catch a J for the bet you will call on river anyway. at this point, you should believe you have the best hand, and get chips from an AK that wont hit anyway ( most of the time) you may also get QQ to fold on river if he checks to you, and you put out a bet (which i dont know if i would unless i know him

    @chubby7078 one more thing….do you want to be known as the guy who puts money in a pot, and backs off so it can be taken away? or just lets you buy cards by betting and scaring you? dont get me wrong here, i definately dont donk chips off, but agression is needed in tourny play. so what if the guy comes over the top….props to an idiot that does so, cuz now he is set-up to give you all kis chips next time when you do have the nuts.

    @chubby7078 …….is ridiculuos!! you need to have an image of strentgth, and this sure isnt the way to do that. absolutely do it if you hit a set, looking for his whole stack on the river.i play to win tournys, and i need a stack to do so. i dont weasel my way to the money.

    ok micro, you talk about reading abilities here. you DONT have a read here…is it AA, AK, mid pair ??? i guarantee the guy didnt check cuz he thought you hit a set. so dont tell me this is good reading ability. in a tourny, you must bet to protect JJ, or find out if the guy set a trap with a set or AA KK. in the long run, you will win this pot most of the time by doing so and not get drawn out on. in fact, daniels theory of throwing jabs in small ball, applies here. what daniel says here is..

    @chubby7078
    yeah, this is doyle’s basic philosophy, it works..

    but daniel’s strategy is optimized for good readers, it increases profit potential by using your reading ability

    i wish i could say this to daniel. i disagree tottally!!, you must put a bet out on the turn. how would you know if the guy is slowplaying AA KK ? and gets you to call what you see as a bluff on river? furthermore, the odds of winning the hand by betting is way more than losing by not betting. sure, i do agree with this in other situations, but not here. the object of poker is to collect info, and not let him catch a A or K. you make more by betting in the long run
